Lagos, Sept. 22, 2022 (NAN) The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev. Daniel Okoh, says the leadership of the association under him will promote inclusiveness, peace, unity and harmony that is worthy of emulation.

He made this known on Thursday on Lagos in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of an event organized to thank God for his emergence as CAN president.

Okoh said under his leadership, CAN would collaborate with other religious bodies and sectors in the country to diffuse tension in the society and bring about development in the country.

He said that his emergence from the minority CAN bloc of the Organisation of African Indigenous Churches (OAIC), showed that there was unity in the OAIC bloc.

According to him, the body has been able to speak with one voice to be reckoned with in the larger body to enable his emergence at a critical time in Nigeria’s history.

He said, “As a body, the new CAN with an all encompassing drive will partner all groups and sectors on a friendly basis to broaden the gains of the nation’s diversity instead of sidelining those in the scheme of things.

“Preachers will be asked to discard hate speech and messages that can cause disaffection and disdain and instead focus on messages and sermons of harmony.

“We are all from God, irrespective of religious leaning. Their efforts should be made for people to see others as regular human beings created by God and as citizens of Nigeria first before any other relational consideration.

“This leadership will champion the cause of egalitarianism, which leaders in other sectors of the society will be compelled to emulate, and advance the nation’s cause and foster the needed growth and development.”

The CAN president described leadership as that which conforms with  societal transformation and thanked the immediate past CAN executive for the role it played for the new leadership to emerge.

Okoh charged Nigerians to elect transformational leaders during the the 2023  general elections in Nigeria.

He also prayed for God’s divine intervention in the election and for the peaceful conduct of the poll, while urging the youth to desist from violence.

NAN recalls that Okoh was elected CAN President in July 2022. (NAN)
