The Nigeria Police Zone 2 Command (comprising Lagos and Ogun) under the leadership of AIG Adeleke Adeyinka Bode has arrested seven suspected members of burglars of 16 rolls of optic fibre cables which were allegedly stolen from a Lagos-based telecoms company, Jus Partners Cosmopolitan Limited.

The monitoring team of Zone 2 Command led by CSP Uba Adam made the arrest after getting a tip-off from staff of the telecoms company, Supreme International Magazine reports.

Speaking at a press briefing during the parade of the suspects on behalf of the Assistant Inspector General In Charge of Zone 2, AIG Adeleke Bode, the Zonal Spokeperson of the Command, SP Hauwa Idris-Adamu said: ‘Arrest of suspects based on intel on 20th June from a telecoms company in Nigeria. The company deals in optic fibre. On that day, some 7 armed men stormed the company area; scaled the fence, tied the private guards on duty and parted away with 16 drums of 96 Core Starlite Optic Cables worth N80 million.’

‘Upon receipt of the information, AIG Adeleke Bode instructed the monitoring team led by CSP Uba Adam and they swung into action. Two days later, the 9 suspectss were arrested and are all here. From investigation, we have recovered 16 rolls and they are here as well. The principal suspect is still at large but we have spread our tentacles to get him.’

The AIG in charge of Zone 2 further advised Nigerians to share information that can lead to more arrests, ‘Nigerians should always say something when they see something. This was gotten as a result of those who gave us information.’

Though the prime suspect, Felix Onyema, is still at large, the monitoring team led by CSP Uba Adam have done well to nab every other suspect involved. Mrs. Felix Blessing, 32 years of age said: ‘When they brought the cable to my shop about 3 weeks ago, I asked if my husband know about it, he is a driver. The Police said my role is that they brought the goods to me but I asked my husband if he was aware and he said yes, that I should allow them. Since then, I have not seen him. His name is Felix Onyeama.’

One of the suspects, Obinna Onu, aged 39 told Trek Africa Newspaper, ‘I bought 10, each drum at N1.6million, total of N16million. I sell to my customers at N1.9million. On any account did I know where they got it from. He told me that the material is at Shibiri, I went there after paying to get the cable. I bought it from N. Celletex. His shop is at Alaba where is selling fibre cable.

40-year old Celestine Nnailo exposed: ‘A friend of mine, Sunday Alagbogu of same church and same market called me that he has cable for sale. He said it is fibre cable and he also sells fibre cable. I told him I don’t have money but I have a friend, Obinna Onu who may be interested. Obinna said he will come and see and he came to Sunday Alabor who took us to Felix house who uses his house as warehouse also. He sold to us. My profit from the sale is N2.8million with transport to get to the place. I bought the cable N13.2million and I sold at N16million. And Obinna took it to his house which he also uses as warehouse.’

‘My boss bought cable from his colleague in the market. I didn’t follow them to the market. The cable is in our house at Fashola street, Abule ado. We bought 10 of the cable’, another suspect revealed.

Yet another suspect shared: ‘I showed interest in 5 cable and he gave me the account number that I would pay to. That is 3rd Wednesday of the month.
