Herald Schools, Lagos, recently held its 17th Graduation, Valedictory Service, and Speech and Prize-Giving Day, with a call to parents to empower their children through quality education.

Speaking at the event, the Proprietress, Mrs Ruth Ikhine, said quality learning at both primary and secondary levels helps children overcome the challenges they will face throughout life.

“We gather to celebrate perseverance, growth, and the unfolding of dreams,” she said. “Indeed, the mercy and faithfulness of God have been our constant guide. To Him be all the glory.”

She reflected on the school’s growth, describing it as a journey built on vision, sacrifice, and divine purpose. From two modest flats and fewer than thirty pupils, Herald Schools has grown into a thriving academic community with over 400 learners and more than 40 staff members.

“We have not only grown. We have become a beacon of academic excellence and moral distinction,” she said. “We do not just educate minds. We nurture character.”

This academic year, the school participated in the 2025 ADIOEF Essay Competition. Students Martins Oluwatise, Njoku Francis, and Abdulkareem Ajibola Haleem represented Herald College and placed 8th out of more than 30 schools and 67 participants across Alimosho Local Government. The students were commended for their brilliance, confidence, and intellectual depth.

One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of Haleem, a graduating student who scored 337 in the 2025 UTME, placing him among the top-performing candidates nationwide. Following this achievement, the founder of ADIOEF awarded him a scholarship to cover each semester of his university education.

Mrs Ikhine thanked the school’s parents for their continued support.

“Your trust and partnership have been the wind beneath our wings. May your investment in your children bring you joy, pride, and generational honour,” she said.

She also praised the staff, calling them “the golden threads in the fabric of this institution.”

“Your expertise, commitment, and quiet sacrifices are treasures that cannot be priced. Herald Schools owes much of its greatness to your tireless efforts and exceptional character,” she added.

To the graduating class of 2025, Mrs Ikhine offered words of encouragement.

“You are stepping into a world that needs your light. Be kind, be bold, be intentional. Remember, you are not just walking away with a certificate. You are carrying the legacy of a school that believes in vision, virtue, and value,” she said.

She also acknowledged her husband’s support, describing him as “a rare gift, a constant anchor, and a noble force that steadies this vision.”

The Chairman  Alhaji Raji Azeez in his goodwill message, congratulated the school on a successful academic year and praised its performance in both internal and external examinations. He urged parents to take advantage of the opportunities the school offers and remain actively involved in their children’s lives.

“Answering your children’s questions helps settle what’s on their minds. If you don’t, strangers with different motives may step in,” he said.

He also advised parents to pay attention to their children’s experiences at school and maintain close relationships with them.

The ceremony ended with prayers for the graduating students. In his closing remarks, Mr Olaguaku said Herald’s education goes beyond academics.

“It is not merely about acquiring knowledge. It is about preparing children for the responsibilities and opportunities ahead,” he said. “Our graduands are well equipped to step into a world that is ever changing and full of possibilities.”
