Transformational Leadership: Our Path of ‘Continuous Growth’ As Officers’ Wives – POWA President, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun

The wife of the Inspector-General of Police and National President, Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun has tasked wives of Police officers to tow the path of continuous growth as a way to unlock their potentials and attain transformational leadership. She gave the charge in her welcome address at the opening ceremony of the ongoing 3-days annual POWA National Convention held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island in Lagos. The 2025 convention is themed ‘Unlocking POWA potentials and transformational leadership’, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

Speaking on the Police Officers’wives Association (POWA) convention, Mrs. Egbetokun said: ‘This convention is an occasion held annually for continuous growth of its members. It is an occasion that brings together all Police officers wives, both serving officer’s wives and the wives of those who lost their husbands at the point of discharging their duties. Police officers’ Wives Aassociation is a non- governmental organization with the objectives of alleviating the challenges faced by the wives, widows, orphans and children of Police officers within the Police community and the broader society. Our vision is mainly to improve the welfare of Police officers and their families and also to support community development.’

‘Transformational leadership focuses on inspiring and motivating followers to achieve extraordinary results by fostering a shared vision, promoting innovation, and building trust through transparency and integrity.’

‘A transformational leader fosters a positive and productive environment, driving growth and change within the organization and communities. To unlock potentials, the following are identified traits: identifying and nurturing individual strengths; Empowering team members to take ownership; Fostering a culture of innovation and learning; and Providing guidance and mentorship. This approach enables individuals to grow, develop, and reach their full potentials, driving collective success and positive impact.’

‘It’s obvious we all have special qualities embedded in us individually,but how to harness such potentials is the vision that moves POWA as we try our best to encourage our women in any way we can to reach their full potentials. Unlocking one’s potential is a journey that requires continuous self-improvement, growth, transformation, embracing challenges and pushing beyond your comfort zone.’

On the successes achieved by POWA in the past, Mrs. Egbetokun highlighted: ‘Police officer’s wives association is an organization that believe in a nurturing environment, transformational practices and the importance of collective impact. To this effect, we have held empowerment programs in various states since my resumption of office where over 3000 women, widows, orphans and physically challenged persons received various items such as sewing machines, grinding machines, wheelchairs, oven, starter packs and relief materials for flood victims. All these are in line with my three point agenda, which are: EDUCATION FOR DEVELOPMENT, QUALITY HEALTH CARE DELIVERY, and BETTER LIFE FOR
ALL.’

Th wife of the IGP thanked the Lagos State Governor, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his wife, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Grand Patron of the association, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh for the success of the event.

The 3-day event opened with a ceremony and Inspirational talk on Wednesday, 30th July, 2025 at Eko Hotel, continues with Day 2 comprising Sport Segment and Empowerment Programs on Thursday, 31st July, 2025 at Onikan Stadium, and rounds up with Day 3 featuring Talent Hunt and Dinner on Friday 1st August, 2025 at Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.
